Monthly Digest — January 2022

03 Feb 2022
Written by: Minima

Dear Minimalists,

During January, we’ve seen bearish movements in the markets, with major cryptocurrencies as well as traditional stocks trading down on the news that the Federal Reserve (the central bank of the United States) might raise interest rates.

At Minima, we continued focusing on the bigger picture and BUIDLing the most decentralized network.

In this post, we’re recapping the first month of the year to keep you posted on what is happening with the protocol and help you catch up with anything you might have missed.

15,000 Nodes

We’re excited to see that our node count continues growing as more and more people start running Minima nodes.

AMA with Paddy Cerri, CTO Minima

On January 13th, we hosted our first AMA of the year featuring our CTO, Paddy Cerri, who shared his vision for Minima and went into technical details of the protocol.

We covered the recently emerged criticisms of Web 3, interoperability of Minima with other Blockchains, the shortcomings of Bitcoin, and more. You can listen to a recording of our session here.

Community Call

The week after our AMA, we welcomed our community to discuss the latest developments in crypto, what’s happening with Web3, our takes on NFTs, and give our community member of the month, Zach, a chance to share his ideas.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to listen to Zach outline what he believes blockchain is meant to provide and discuss everything Minima.

“I also had the chance to get in early on an NFT project last year and didn’t. I have a habit of being early and then hesitating. And now, in hindsight, the reason I hesitated was a subconscious question about if the blockchain is actually decentralized.“ — Zach

Thanks to everyone who joined us during the call, asked us questions, and contributed on-stage. You can catch up with the most important topics we covered on our blog or by listening to the recording here.

Launch of the Meme Channel

Memes have become a significant source of entertainment and are even used in an educational context to explain complex topics. We’ve noticed that Minimalists love to meme and decided to launch a Discord Channel to display all your creative Memes.

Every month we will pick a community favorite (measured by reactions to the meme) and a team favorite (chosen by our community team). The winners will receive Minima Rewards.

Congratulations to our first two winners this month who created the following submissions (team favorite left, community favorite on the right):

We’re looking forward to seeing more Minima Memes.

New Server/PC Version of Minima

In the last week of January, we updated our Server/PC Version of Minima to Version 0.100.30.

If you’re running Minima on your PC or on a Server, please update to the newest version. With this new .jar we are preparing to support future releases of the Minima Android version.

You can find instructions on how to update your Minima depending on how you run it here.

If you run into any troubles during the process, please create a support ticket on our Discord using #support-request. We’re happy to help.

Thank you for being part of the Minima community.

The evolution will not be centralized.

Your Minima Team.
