This strategic move underscores our commitment to pioneering the Decentralized Physical Infrastructure (DePIN), Real World Assets (RWA) and AI movements by enabling every edge device to run a full blockchain node.

The Differentiator: Full Nodes on Shrinking Form Factors

Unlike traditional blockchains that require significant resources to run full nodes, Minima's lean protocol allows even the smallest devices to operate independently as full nodes. This represents a fundamental shift in how decentralized networks can function. By embedding Minima directly onto devices, we empower them to independently verify transactions, ensuring enhanced security and resilience across the network.

Minima achieves this by revolutionizing Proof of Work in order to run at the Edge and allows even small devices to participate in the network without significant power consumption or processing overhead. This is achieved through

  • Collaborative PoW: nodes on the Minima network collaborate, rather than compete, to construct and validate blocks. Every node does a small bit of work which is added together and this cooperative approach enhances the network's efficiency and security, reducing the energy consumption typically associated with mining.
  • Cascading Chain (Blocks and Superblocks): Minima introduces a cascading chain structure to efficiently manage the growth of the blockchain. The cascading chain is a subset of the entire blockchain, composed of so-called "Superblocks", that provides a record of the total amount of PoW contributed and objective proof of the current valid chain. This allows for heavy pruning of regular blocks, keeping the chain compact and lightweight.
  • Merkle Mountain Range (MMR): Minima uses a MMR database to record the complete UTxO (coin) set. Nodes are only required to keep the proofs for their own coins and the latest root hash of the MMR tree, which helps keep individual node growth manageable. Transaction verification by all nodes in the network is fast, as it simply requires the spender to provide the proofs of their coins alongside the transaction.

The Importance of Embedding Full Nodes at the Edge

By embedding Minima capabilities into every device, Minima ensures that any device can construct and validate transactions. This approach enhances the overall security and resilience of the network, as it does not rely on centralized points of failure. The benefit is a censorship resistant network that enables every device to deliver:

  1. Data Attestation: Running a node on edge devices ensures data can be time-stamped and hashed at the source. This enhances security, data integrity and provides a reliable audit trail, crucial for applications needing high levels of trust in data. 
  1. Token Generation: Edge devices can generate tokens (or edge assets), enabling economic interactions between applications to directly take place at the edge. This facilitates new business models and autonomous applications 
  1. Peer-to-Peer Real Time Messaging: Minima capabilities on edge devices enable low-latency peer-to-peer messaging. This allows direct, real-time and encrypted communication between nodes for information transfer with zero intermediaries.
  1. MiniDapps: Decentralized apps on Minima, known as MiniDapps, execute directly on the device. This local execution ensures efficient and autonomous operations on the device, and currently there are 22 MiniDapps in circulation, and growing.

The roadmap for Minima envisions a future where a full Minima node can run on a microchip as a System on Chip (SoC). This innovative "chain on chip" technology will enable several enhanced efficiencies, including:

  • Blockchain Everywhere: Minima embedded into any machine, vehicle, device, appliance, drone, or robot.
  • Instantaneous Proof of Work: Immediate validation is achieved, streamlining operations.
  • Energy Efficiency: Energy consumption is reduced by 99%.

These advancements will facilitate safe and secure control for autonomous applications in the future, particularly those driven by AI.

AI at the edge is decentralized intelligence

In today's digital landscape, data is often heralded as the new oil. However, like oil, not all data is created equal. For AI agents operating at the edge of the network, the quality and verifiability of data are paramount. This is where Minima's blockchain technology provides a transformative solution. By embedding Minima's technology into edge devices, data is hashed and time-stamped at source, ensuring a verifiable record of data provenance. This authentication eliminates bias, reduces duplication, and enhances model performance, ensuring accurate and trustworthy AI outputs.
