Dear Minimalists,
Minima is conceived at its core to be as resilient as possible no matter what is going on in the World. This resilience though requires that you think about the best place to run your Node, to ensure any outside factor doesn’t impact its operation, in turn losing you Incentive Reward Tokens.
The biggest causes of Node downtime are:
-
Power outages
-
Telecoms outages
-
Internet Service Provider Network Interruptions
-
VPS Outages
-
Crypto use breaching the Terms & Conditions of VPS Providers
Point 5 is obvious to prevent — simply make sure your VPS provider allows the use of their services for Crypto projects.
As to the other points, to develop resilience to these things you need only consider two things: Failsafes & Node Location
Fail Safes
Did you know that you can connect as many nodes as you like to your Incentive Reward Account? You will earn 1 Incentive Reward a day as normal, but if you have a VPS Node as well it will protect you from a situation where your mobile node can’t connect to the internet, or runs out of battery as the VPS Node will keep pinging your Incentive Reward Account until your phone can connect again.
Location
For even greater resilience, consider locating your VPS Node in a totally different territory to the one you are in. Consider this scenario:
You live in the United Kingdom and run Minima on your phone but you lose 4G and the WiFi isn’t connecting either. You turn on the news and find that there is a large-scale internet outage — looks like someone turned off the wrong thing at the backbone ISP!
But you are smart — you have a VPS Node as a backup and you located it in Argentina. That node is still pinging away… you can relax relatively stress-free (no Netflix or TikTok is annoying after all) in the knowledge that your Incentive Rewards are safe and sound, you won’t be losing any today.
We hope that this reminder about Node Resilience helps ensure that whatever unexpected things you encounter, your Node keeps pinging!
